about me

I am Marcella Detroit, AKA Marcy Levy. I am a musician, singer and songwriter, and most importantly, an artist.  I've been involved in music since I was a child and love it. I'm about to venture into the brave new world of an independent release of my newest collection of songs.  More information on that to follow. Please check the "Favorites/Links" page for news updated weekly at blogger.com.

But for now, I'd like to tell you some more about me.  In the early 90's, I was one half of the UK band, Shakespear's Sister. I was vocally featured on our song "Stay" which was number One for eight weeks in the UK charts, setting the record for the longest running number one for a female band in the UK. It also went Gold here in the US, selling over 500k copies. Since then, I have done a few solo albums:  "Jewel" on London Records in 1994;  "feeler" on AAA Records/Total/BMG in 1996; "Dancing Madly Sideways" in 1999 on my own indie label [on itunes]. I got back to my blues roots for new inspiration and did an indie Blues cd in 2005 called, "The Upside of Being Down" also available on itunes. Since then, I've been enjoying writing with some very talented artists and working on new songs for myself which will be featured on my upcoming release.

I started out in music back in Detroit, where I'm from,  and got my first big break singing with Bob Seger. Next it was on to singing and touring with Leon Russell, and following that, Eric Clapton. I toured with EC for a total of 5 years, all over the world and cowrote one of his biggest hits, "Lay Down Sally", as well as the cool album track, "The Core".
